The Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), CCMA Medical Assistant or CMA credential is a medical assistant who has been
credentialed by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants. In order to receive this
credential you must pass the Certification Examination (CMA). This credential must be recertified every 60 months by
continuing education or a re-examination. Exams cost $125 for student and recent graduates and $250 for all others.
There is a $50 reactivation fee for any expired credentials. The exam may be taken throughout the year at a Prometric testing center (open
eight to 10 hours per day, five to six days a week) of your choice. Each candidate is allowed a 90-day period in which
to take the exam. Your 90-day testing period will be assigned based on the testing period start date you indicate on
your application.
The CMA Exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (180 scored, 20 pretest) administered in four 40 minute
segments. The four sections are as follows:
